Canadian geese, moose, beavers, eagles, lupins, fishing boats, mountains, rivers, sea, snow and ice are all part of my fascination with Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Calendars - seven years and counting

2024 Cape Breton Scenery & Wildlife calendars

Someone once suggested to me, “you should make calendars with one image per month.” I was amused by this as I started creating calendars with a collage of images each month so I would be able to offer something different. I wonder if I should have listened.😊 Image selection alone takes more hours than I want to count, especially when I get side-tracked looking through photos. Have you ever gone back through your photos looking for something in particular and found yourself scrolling through without any idea how much time has passed? Maybe that’s just me.

After carefully selecting photos that will go together on a page, a total of 83 images in the 2024 calendar, I then l colour co-ordinate the background. Did you notice that I also include in image behind the dates?

Thank you so much to everyone who has bought a calendar from me in the past and to those that come back for more every year – I appreciate you and you inspire me to repeat the process every year!

Saltscapes Magazine amateur photography contest

April 05, 2018

I was so excited hear that I won the World Up Close category of the Saltscapes Magazine amateur photography contest published in the April/May 2018 edition.

I submitted several images under each of the four categories and the winner was Golden Eyes, a close up photo of one of our cats, Carly. I spend a lot of time photographing our pets (currently three cats, a dog, and two geese). I always like to stand back and zoom in, giving the pets their space so as not to distract them.

Something with Pictures

Introducing the other side of my photography—Something With Pictures Inc.

Beginning with a combination of my photography experience and a passion for preserving family history in books, Something With Pictures Inc. was born. After creating a number of custom books for community and individuals, I started to play around with design software and came up with greeting cards using my photographs combined with digital art. I chose a unique size for these cards (6" x 3") which gave them additional appeal, and began selling them at Colouratura Art Gallery in 2013. My cards and photography are now available from my Etsy store and at various locations around Cape Breton Island.

I continue to create custom books and calendars for individuals and organisations. As the nominated family historian, much of the photographs, slides, negative, and historical documents have been bestowed upon me. I scan and share these records with my extended family. I offer this service to anyone interested in preserving their family history, along with the option to photograph memorabilia.
